Increase in nitric oxide (NO) by humming. Try humming a song a day and see what happens. Remember the power of NO? See Issue #138.

Inspiration | Guest Post

I was depressed.

13 years ago, everyday seemed like a struggle, a constant battle - but I didn’t let anyone else in. Instead of sharing, I continued to perform poorly in school and distract myself with anything to keep me from thinking about the daily grind of life.

My mental state affected everything - I was constantly sick and unable to focus. It got to the point where I thought it was normal to think life was a burden and to not really experience any joy.

Then, in 2011, I followed the advice of a dear friend to try yoga and meditation. I was desperate and would give anything a go.

This was the turning point of my life - I’d found a new way to feel and a new sense of what was possible in life. And the more I did of it the better I felt - it was possible to feel happy, and to be healthy.

As I gradually felt better, I found breathing awareness - the ability to shift my perspective in any moment in time. I figured out that I can always take a deep breath, let go an exhale and reset my reality

Taking this to the next level, I took more mindfulness classes, weeks-long silent meditation retreats with Buddhist masters in Asia and organized events for experts like Wim Hof.

Today I’m the Founder/CEO of a funded startup (Breathing.ai), have published papers, spoke at global conferences, wrote machine learning patents, and have helped thousands of people - from Google employees to kids to inmates at the Rikers Island prison - improve their lives with yoga and breathing techniques.

I also haven’t been sick or depressed since 2014

But I recognize that not everyone has the resources, support, access, and network to overcome their struggles. That’s where breathing.ai comes in.

We develop scalable, affordable and accessible services to support health and happiness. It all leads to our mission to overcome the current disconnect of mind & body, to create a more mindful relationship with technology.

When we feel better, we perform better - and with joy.

To health!

Friday Flex

Huge fan of this ab workout! The plank push/pull is a good one (tough if you've never done it before) - and don't worry, it's just 5 minutes!

Consider an Odyssey - Martial Arts

Learn a martial art. Martial arts aren’t really about fighting - more about controlling your mind and body. Try the favorite of Guest Writer Lisa, Taekwondo, or maybe Judo, Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, heck even Krav Maga.

Why: Reduce stress, enhance sleep quality and improve memory
