Issue #64: Incredible Story of a New Perspective on Life

Good morning. It’s Friday, November 11th. Thank you to all veterans and those that have served, or are serving, to protect our great country. We owe you our freedom and can never thank you enough. We are sincerely grateful! 🦅

You have to push past your perceived limits, push past that point you thought was as far as you can go.

Exercise (including resistance training) only accounts for five percent of the total energy we expend in a day. 70% of energy used is just to keep the body functioning (Basal Metabolic Rate). BUT...lifting helps increase this efficiency (our metabolism) because lean muscle mass requires more oxygen than adipose tissue or fat. (Source)

Inspiration

We all know the movie Remember the Titans, but many of us probably don't know the story of Ethan Suplee. Ethan was the 500 lb lineman just trying to stay academically eligible to play (one of his many roles).

Well Ethan committed to making a radical change and here is he today (no - it wasn't a smooth journey to get there):

He talks about finding new perspectives to undertake this massive transformation - believing he has control of his life, that his life has value, he cares about himself and that "today is yesterday's tomorrow."

But what really stuck with me was "I can exchange acute discomfort for chronic misery..."

That mindset relates to so much of what it takes to thrive. Like we talked about last week - life needs to be fun - trying to find enjoyment in everything (even hitting up the gym), but acute stress (exercise, fasting, cold plunges) eliminates a life of chronic stress and poor health.

Thanks for another great week! In honor of Ethan here's a little memory of the state title for the Titans back in 1972.

Get ready for the mind shift coming next week - we're on to Meditation

** Brain Games Answer **

#1: The letter “R”. It’s time to get super literal. This riddle works by trying to get you to think about the weather, holidays or other events linked to the calendar.
