Issue #44: NFL Player Turned Neurosurgeon

Good morning. It’s Friday, October 14th. Ok - a big day at Thrive25. Max turns 42 today! Specifically, at 6:48pm ET (he made sure we knew the exact time). We love that guy! You wouldn't be reading this newsletter without him - send him some love!

Communication is merely an exchange of information, but connection is an exchange of our humanity.
— Sean Stephenson

...and counting. The number of views, across TED.com and YouTube, of Dr. Robert Waldinger's TED Talk on the findings from Harvard's longest running study on happiness. Highlighted in Issue #40 - find 12 minutes, it's worth a watch.

Bonus: Our lives are constantly changing. Society sets a standard of what we should do as we advance in age, in our careers, in our relationships. If we become too focused on material goods and superficial achievement, we risk losing the friends and pursuits that give our lives meaning.*

Stay true to yourself - there is no right or wrong path. Value those relationships that align with your values, ditch those that erode into unhealthy "keeping up" treadmills.

Inspiration

He was the #1 high school prospect in the entire country. He starred as a safety at Florida State and in 2010 was drafted into the NFL.

Three years later he was released without ever making it off the practice squad or appearing in an actual NFL game.

Dejected - Myron Rolle struggled with "what's next" in his life.

Today he's a neurosurgeon at Harvard Medical School and Mass General Hospital

Even as an All-American (and Rhodes Scholar), Rolle struggled with doubts and uncertainty - feeling like an outcast.

He believes everyone has something "brilliant in them" and that it's never too late to reinvent yourself

Like all of us, he's still figuring out to how to best be fully present in all aspects of life - as a father, husband, neurosurgeon, mentor. But his family and friends help him laugh and "pour life into him" for the energy he needs everyday.

Why Thrive25

We’re 40-something dads that felt our bodies and minds start to slow down and we’re not ready for that. We found too much information on every subject. So we started Thrive25 to transform what we’ve learned into something useful for the rest of us to spend just 3-5 min a day to optimize our health & longevity.

This newsletter is for you and we truly value your feedback. Never hesitate to reach out to us at team@thrive25.com.
