Age is not measured by years. Nature does not equally distribute energy. Some people are born old and tired while others are going strong at seventy.

From the Lab

Are you in optimal metabolic health?

Here are the metrics used in the Tufts Study (Stat of the Day) to determine “optimal health”:

  1. BMI < 25 kg/m2

  2. Blood Pressure < 120 / 80 (systolic / diastolic)

  3. Fasting Glucose < 100 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter)

  4. Cholesterol < 3.5:1 ratio (Total Cholesterol / HDL Cholesterol)

  5. No History of Heart Disease or Plaque Buildup

Do you meet all 5?

Functional Age

There’s a massive push to measure “biological age.” These tests get into the science of measuring DNA methylation, plus the function of specific organs to give an age for that organ or part of the body.

These tests are still being improved upon - many experts say they aren’t really ready for primetime just yet.

Regardless, you know what really does matter? What you can do and how you feel.

Who cares what your “biological age” is if you aren’t able to climb a few flights of stairs without needing to catch your breath or if your hand gets tired after 5 min of pressure washing or if even the thought of exercise makes you tired.

We put together a list of 12 fitness assessments - aligned to specific age/gender segments - so you can benchmark where you stand in terms of real-world metabolic health.

These assessments include - walking, running, biking, treading water, squats, push-ups, plank hold, sit/stand test, stork test and more.

We even have a tracker so you can track your progress every month or quarter.

Download both the Playbook and Tracker HERE.

It’s not just about these tests - it’s about playing sports with your kids, hiking to the top of Half Dome at Yosemite, and still running the Turkey Trot every year.

Age is just a number - what you can do defines your longevity.

Health & Longevity in the News

The Whitest White Paint: In 2021, the Guinness World Records named it the whitest paint ever. Focused on all this heat, researchers at Purdue University created a paint that can bounce 98% of the sun’s rays back into space. It will be ready for commercial use next year. (NYTimes)

You Just Need $100K: Longevity clinics are popping up across the country - with some costing up to $100K per year (outside of insurance) to be members. The market is unregulated, but it’s easy to follow the money - VC investment doubled from $27M to $57M between 2021 and 2022, with 70% in the US. (WSJ)

The Taylor Swift Economy: Speaking of money, Taylor Swift made her way into the Fed’s Beige Book. In Consumer Spending, the Philadelphia office noted her impact on the economy thanks to hotel revenues from fans traveling to her three shows at Lincoln Financial Field. Similarly, Chicago experienced their highest hotel bookings ever when she sold out Soldier Field. (Billboard)
