Inspiration | Sam Kass

Imagine going from making dinner for the President to collecting food waste from grocery stores.

Meet Sam Kass.

A lot of chefs talk about health and sustainability - but this takes a back seat to wanting to win awards. Not Kass.

After moving with the Obamas into the White House he became Executive Director of the “Let’s Move” campaign to fight childhood obesity.

Here’s his impassioned Ted Talk - “Want kids to learn well? Feed them well”

Today Kass is the Chief Strategy Officer of Do Good - which is working to eliminate food waste by collecting leftover food from retail stores and repackaging this as feed for chickens.

According to Kass, “if one in five chickens Americans ate were Do Good chickens, we would solve retail food waste.”

All of these efforts led to Kass being named to Fast Company’s “Most Creative People” (2011), receiving a James Beard Foundation Leadership award (2015), and being named to the World Economic Forum Class of Young Global Leaders (2017) - which recognizes people under 40 who “push boundaries and rethink the world around them.”

I don’t think my grilled chicken will ever be served to a President and I’m probably not going to win a James Beard award - but I already got the acclaim that I was after.

What We’re Listening To | Dhru Purohit

Check out this intriguing interview with Bryan Johnson - you might recall we profiled him and his “Blueprint” to reverse his aging back in Issue #115. The calendar says he’s 45, but he says that many of his biomarkers would suggest he’s only 10.

Regardless of what you think of the science, it’s a captivating interview from someone who spends millions of dollars to optimize his health.

Bucket List | Interlaken, Switzerland

No matter where you might visit in Europe this summer, Switzerland is right in the middle and easily accessible from just about anywhere. Interlaken is the home of adventure sports. Whether you want to try paragliding, canyoning, rafting or even sky diving - there’s plenty to get your heart pumping. Or just enjoy one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world with some hiking and biking.

Need more? Check the famous Canyon Swing - jump off a 300 ft platform to swing through a tiny canyon with a moment of complete weightlessness before reaching speeds of 75 mph. Check out the video.

Brain Games | Huh?

What has a mouth, but cannot eat; moves, but has no legs; and has a bank, but cannot put money in it?
