A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you do NOT need it.

Retirement assets at the end of Q3 2022 in the U.S. - that's roughly 22% of all household net worth ($143.3T) in the U.S. (ICI, FED). This is good, as most financial experts suggest investing 15% of your income in your retirement.

Inspiration

Five years ago, Kevin Love broke through the deep silence of professional athletes and mental health.

He wrote, “growing up, you figure out really quickly how a boy is supposed to act. You learn what it takes to ‘be a man.’ It’s like a playbook: Be strong. Don’t talk about your feelings. Get through it on your own.

Things have changed since 2018. There’s never been a more open dialogue about mental health and how anxiety and depression can affect anyone.

But just because companies are offering therapy services or because the news media is writing stories about more people (including guys) being vulnerable - it doesn’t mean that it translates to all of us in our day-to-day lives.

There are still executives and leaders isolated with their own fears and stress. There are still parents struggling to figure out how to take care of themselves as they give everything they’ve got to their jobs and kids. There are still partners feeling like they aren’t the person they need to be for their spouse to respect them or to still find them sexually attractive.

These thoughts enter all of our minds - all of us.

What Kevin Love did was make it ok to talk about it. He started the Kevin Love Fund to promote the idea that support isn’t just ok - it’s an essential part of life. The more we hold our demons inside the more they will just eat away at us.

I’ve never gone to therapy and wouldn’t be the right person to suggest that’s “the answer." But I do believe we all need to lean on others and have real conversations if we are going to thrive.
