Issue #135: The Legacy Letter Challenge

Good morning. It’s Friday, February 24th. The Gregorian calendar was introduced in 1582...that's why today isn't February 11th.

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

We touched on the Alaska Railroad in Issue #122, this is the number of lakes in Alaska - thanks snowmelt (a few more than 10,000). I'd bet all of these would be solid options for cold plunges - remember to be safe - in a controlled space with a partner and exit strategy.

Legacy Letter Challenge

Blake Brewer was snorkeling on vacation in Hawaii when his dad - his hero - got caught in a rip current. He managed to bring his dad to shore, but it was too late. In an instant, at only 19, Blake lost his father forever.

That same day - Blake’s mom found a letter from her husband for Blake and his siblings. His dad spent the time to actually write down what his kids meant to him and it’s those words that continue to lead and guide Blake through his life.

Blake has used that tragic accident to get every dad and parent to write a letter to their kids - founding the Legacy Letter Challenge

The mission is to help 1 million parents write at least 1 well written, meaningful, lasting legacy letter.

We communicate with our kids every day. But how often are we saying - “Let’s Go” or “Please stop [FILL IN THE BLANK]” or “Did you brush your teeth?”

If you have small kids you get the chance to say “I love you” at night. When they’re grown this is probably left for the end of a phone call or text.

But the power of the written word - when someone takes the time to think about what they want to say and actually writes it out - is something special. I now write every single day, yet beyond birthday or holiday cards rarely write to my kids.

But this isn't the same as taking the time to write a full letter telling them - I love you; I'm proud of you; I believe in you - along with the guidance of what you've learned in life to help them through theirs.

We talk a lot about time - our life is really just the moments where we pay attention and how we spend our time. I can’t think of a better investment than to create a letter for my kids.

So I’m taking on this Legacy Letter Challenge and am throwing it out to all you parents to consider it too.

If you aren’t sure where to start - feel free to reach out to us at Thrive25 (as I said I write a lot these days) or you can check out Blake’s Masterclass
